Performance Framework FAQs

What is the APS Non-SES Performance Framework?

Mandated for all APS agencies by 2028, the Non-SES Performance Framework shifts the focus to "frequent quality conversations" rather than just static annual reviews. Crucially, it dictates that behaviours (how you deliver outcomes) are just as important as the outcomes themselves. Excellence in your KPIs cannot offset poor workplace behaviour that misaligns with the APS Values.

How do APS performance cycles and PFADS work?

Many agencies, such as the Department of Defence, use PFADS (Performance Feedback Assessment and Development Scheme) to drive their annual performance cycle. These cycles require structured checkpoint conversations to set expectations, review KPIs and KERs, and align your output with the agency's Enterprise Agreement (EA).

Can you help me negotiate my KPIs and KERs?

Yes. Your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Expected Results (KERs) dictate your performance metrics and promotion viability. If you allow your manager to set vague or purely operational metrics, you cannot prove you are ready for a promotion at the end of the cycle. We coach you on how to negotiate strategic, measurable metrics that set you up for executive advancement.
