Don't just practice generic answers. To secure a role on Smart Jobs, you must prove you meet the Merit Principle at the required leadership level. We are former public sector hiring managers who help you align your experience precisely with the QLD Framework.
Applying for a role in the Queensland Government requires navigating a strict, highly regulated merit-based selection process. The panel cannot award you points based on assumptions; they rely entirely on how well your evidence maps to the Leadership Competencies for Queensland (LC4Q).
If your STAR examples don't clearly demonstrate the specific behavioural indicators for your targeted leadership profile (e.g., Individual Contributor vs. Program Leader), you will fall short.
Successful candidates weave these three pillars into their narrative. We'll show you how to structure your responses so the QLD panel hears exactly what they are legally required to score you on.

Ultimate Mastery
The Leadership Competencies for Queensland (LC4Q) is the core framework used across the QLD public sector to assess candidates. It is built around three core pillars: Vision, Results, and Accountability. Depending on the level of the role (e.g., Individual Contributor, Team Leader, Program Leader, Executive), you must demonstrate specific behavioural indicators under these pillars.
A merit-based interview means the selection panel must assess all candidates fairly and strictly against the key requirements outlined in the role description. They are looking for the person whose skills, knowledge, and experience provide the greatest value and 'merit' to the QLD public. Your answers must be highly evidence-based to score maximum merit points.
You should use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). However, for QLD roles, your 'Action' component must directly address the specific behavioural indicators of the LC4Q framework (Vision, Results, or Accountability) relevant to the question being asked. Vague storytelling will not score points.
Queensland Government applications (often requiring a 'Statement of Suitability' or Cover Letter) usually have strict 1-2 page limits. You cannot address every single duty. You must strategically group your experience to address the overarching LC4Q pillars and the specific 'Are you the right person for the role?' criteria using highly condensed STAR examples.
